Douglas has trained in various martial arts over the years never sticking to one style as he never found one that had everything he was looking for. He finally found Krav Maga 13 years ago and was instantly hooked. He hasn’t stopped since and now trains in Krav Maga most days. He passed the KMG General Instructors Course (GIC) in May 2012 and now holds the rank of Expert Level 1. He also regularly trains in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu to mix things up a bit and complement his Krav Maga training
With a “strong” interest in strength training, Douglas is a fully certified Strongfirst Kettlebell Instructor (SFG 1) having completed the Strongfirst snatch test (100 snatches in 5 minutes with a 24kg bell) in London in 2013. He has impressive knowledge in all things relating to strength training and has previously competed in national powerlifting competitions, successfully deadlifting 200kg and squatting 145kg.
In his other life, Douglas is the Principal Teacher for Learning and Behaviour support in a secondary school. He is passionate about teaching and loves to see both his school and Tactical Defence Krav Maga students progressing and improving. In his spare time, he enjoys lifting heavy things and walking his boxer dog, Loki, with his wife Jenny.
Douglas regularly teaches at the Largs and Greenock Tactical Defence classes.
